About Me
I am Lorna McCrindle and I graduated from Wits Medical School in 2008.
Following my internship in Cape Town, community service in Rustenburg, and a year in obstetrics and gynaecology, I realised my interest and passion lay in the field of Family Medicine.
I chose to specialise in Family Medicine over 4 years working in the district hospitals and community health centres of Cape Town. I became a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians in 2016 and completed my master’s degree from UCT in 2018.
I gained experience and expertise in different fields throughout the Family Medicine training years and achieved a diploma in both obstetrics and anaesthetics from the College of Medicine in South Africa.
After my training, in 2017, I became the Chief Medical Officer at St Luke’s Hospice in Cape Town and served multiple communities across the Cape as a palliative care physician. This was a challenging year but grew me both as a person and a doctor as I managed patients and their families in the most difficult of times.

After the birth of my son, we moved back to Johannesburg. I have worked in private practice in Sandton, Johannesburg for 6 years, and thoroughly enjoy the privilege of developing long-standing relationships with my patients as I serve their health needs.
As I embark on the next stage of my career, it is my ambition to use my knowledge and experience to offer an excellent level of care to patients who visit their family doctor.
I am a mother to a young son, Noah, and appreciate the challenges that babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers bring. Outside of work, I am a keen runner, enjoy time with my family, and enjoy fellowship at Upper Room church.

My Philosophy
It is a core principle of Family Medicine, when assessing a patient, to consider their clinical picture, to listen to how the individual understands and perceives their illness, and to appreciate the context within which the patient lives.
This clinical-individual-contextual assessment is crucial to forming a meaningful relationship, correctly diagnosing a condition, and providing a tailored approach to the management of a particular patient.

I take great joy in knowing my patients; and learning how I can be of service to them. I enjoy meeting new babies, dealing with childhood illness, managing stress in the workplace, looking after the elderly, and offering palliative care. No two days are the same in Family Practice.

What is a Family Physician?
The role of ‘’Family Physician’’ as compared to ‘’General Practitioner’’, within the realm of health professionals, is generally not fully appreciated.
The Family Physician spends 4 years attaining a master’s degree comprising of practical and compulsory training experience in multiple different fields of medicine. These fields include obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery, paediatrics, psychiatry, palliative care and others. Their training goes beyond that of the traditional formal education and training of a General Practitioner.
Further, the ‘holistic approach’ to medical care is a fundamental technique which the Family Physician applies into the diagnostic process.
